What we do
Communities of Excellence 2026 was founded in 2010 and incorporated in 2013 as a national, independent nonprofit to advance the common good by providing the roadmap for a journey to sustainable community performance excellence. It’s a roadmap for communities that choose to confront challenges with a proven course of action demanding high performance and commitment to achieve desired outcomes. Focused on community collaboration across sectors in health, education, and employment/economic vitality, the test framework for community performance excellence was adapted from the national Baldrige criteria for performance excellence for business, health care, and educational systems and marshals the resources of state performance excellence organizations, academic research and expertise, and experienced community leadership across diverse sectors. The framework initially focuses on health, education, and economic prosperity but will support work to improve performance in other sectors as well at the discretion of communities using it. Communities of Excellence 2026 inspires, educates, and supports communities and their current and future generations of leaders to reach and sustain high levels of performance and a culture of excellence.
